- "Opera 10 Beta 1 was release yesterday and I decided to give it a whirl on my openSUSE 11.1 workstation, and boy was the performance, appearance and overall experience was phenomenal. I personally use the browser for Mail (IMAP w/ GMAIL), RSS and ATOM feeds, IRC and Web Browsing. Although there are some room for improvement on future releases (a folders for RSS feeds, more distinct icons for contacts vs non contacts and bigger market share) overall it’s an A+ browser and blows the already superior 9.x out of the water."

- Klaas Freitag: Hermes Hack Session
- "Last week Cornelius and me spent two days in the office in Prague to practice two days Ruby on Rails with our czech colleagues. It was not only fun as usual but we had chosen Hermes as a trainings project. Hermes, our openSUSE notification system where the user decides how she wants to be notified definetely can make use of work so it were great to discuss with ten developers about it, hear their opinions and get some patches finished which will improve the system."
- Jigish Gohil: Coming soon on the servers near you: Easy-LTSP-NG
- "Easy-LTSP, an easy to use GUI to configure LTSP’s lts.conf file was developed as a part of Google Summer of Code ‘08 by Jan Weber. It was written in C#, it was decided to use C# at that time to accomplish a complex task in a very short period of time given for GSOC. Thanks to it setting up LTSP on openSUSE is just a few mouse clicks."

- RadioTux calls for Contribution for the OpenSUSE Interviews.
- Joe Brockmeier: Podcasts - any interest?
- "Been toying with the idea of doing a quick weekly podcast - no frills, just a quick recap of the week, usually with what’s going on in and around openSUSE, as well as other comments on wider Linux community. So, is there any demand for this sort of thing? Also talking about doing some interview ‘casts, [...]"
- Greg Kroah-Hartman: Linux Driver Project Status Report as of June 2009
- "The Linux Driver Project (LDP) is now over two years old. It sprang up out of the complaints from some users and companies that there was a real "Linux driver problem". The perception was that Linux did not have good driver support, and that closed source drivers were potentially taking over some device types. It turns out, that almost all hardware is currently already supported on Linux, with almost all major vendors shipping Linux drivers."
- Miguel de Icaza: Developing Cross Platform application with MonoDevelop
- "Yesterday Lluis announced the last missing piece from our strategy to make MonoDevelop a full cross-platform IDE: MonoDevelop now runs on Windows as well:..."

- Martin Vidner: Cool Features in Automake 1.11
- "Automake is not dead, and version 1.11 will soon be in openSUSE Factory (thx puzel!) I see two new features to like: parallel execution and terse compilation. The parallel execution is enabled by the environment variable AUTOMAKE_JOBS=n. It reduced the run time for yast2-core from 18s to 7s for me."

- h-online.com/Thorsten Leemhuis: Kernel Log - What's coming in 2.6.30 - Architecture and infrastructure
- "Linus Torvalds recently released the eighth and probably last pre-release version of Linux 2.6.30 – the sage of Linux has announced that Linux 2.6.30 will be released shortly, (probably this weekend). Not that he always sticks religiously to such pronouncements; nonetheless it is unlikely to be more than a few days before kernel version 2.6.30 hits the shelves. Kernel Log thus concludes the "What's coming in 2.6.30" series with this overview of architecture support and infrastructure-related changes."
- h-online/Dr. Oliver Diedrich: Novell - On the way to becoming a Linux business?
- "Novell's recently released figures for the second quarter of 2009 showed an 8.5 per cent drop in sales compared to the previous year – not a big surprise in light of the much debated economic crisis. Even so, the latest figures are in line with the broad trend at Novell. Sales have been falling for years – from just shy of $300 million per quarter in late 2004 to around $216 million now. ..."
- distrowatch/Ladislav Bodnar: Running openSUSE "Factory"
- "openSUSE Continuing our series of tips about how to run development branches of major distributions (we have so far covered Mandriva "Cooker" and Slackware "Current"), today we'll take a look at openSUSE and its "Factory" repository. Previously called "Edge", this development repository offers interested beta testers a unique opportunity to try a product as it evolves, including the latest versions of many popular applications, and to help improving the distribution by reporting bugs. It isn't for the faint of heart, however; in fact, the project's Factory page warns that "Factory is not guaranteed to be in a consistent and installable state during the full development cycle." That said, most of the time it runs just fine, but if a disaster strikes, it's always possible to re-install the system from any recent milestone release."
