Новинки openSUSE: openSUSE-Education 1.0 для SLE10 и 11.1

  • "The first version of the openSUSE-Education Add-on is drawing to a close. By releasing the final version for SUSE Linux Enterprise 10 and the first Release Candidate for 11.1, we hopefully have the first community Add-On media which is available for each (open)SUSE Release, soon!"

Joe Brockmeier: Напоминание о Smolt… Нам нужны профили вашего оборудования!

  • "Just a quick reminder - when you install openSUSE 11.1, please be sure to run Smolt to send the hardware profile to the Smolt project. I’m looking over on the Smolt Web site and the participation seems to be a bit less than 30% in terms of people who’ve run Smolt vs. people who seem to have installed openSUSE and run an update. ..."

Предложение openSUSE-GNOME Bug Day

  • "Greetings!I'm a little late getting this message out, so lets hope you all haven't slipped away for holiday festivities yet!In the last GNOME Team meeting, we discussed having a bug triage event on 09 JAN 2009 lasting the majority of the day. We're looking to closeup as many bugs in 11.0 as we can and move those that are tagged 'upstream' on their way."

Joe Brockmeier: Забота и кормление прессы в стиле сообщества

  • "With the openSUSE launch last week, I spent quite a bit of time talking to press — either on the phone, via e-mail, and on IM — about openSUSE 11.1. In 2009, I hope that many members of the openSUSE community will have opportunities to speak to press at one point or another, in order to promote and educate about the work that’s being done within openSUSE. I can give high-level overviews of features and trends in the community, but no one is going to explain the importance of work on specific projects as well as the people who actually do the work. So don’t be surprised if you get an email from me or someone in Novell PR saying “hey, can you talk to somebody about your work…?”..."

Indonesian openSUSE Community : Тренинг почтового сервера Zimbra

  • "Indonesian openSUSE community organized training event about Zimbra Mail Server on Saturday, December 20, 2008. It was a preliminary event for openSUSE 11.1 release party on Saturday and Sunday, December 20-21 2008. Although there was an issue about ending of Zimbra implementation support for openSUSE on next version (Zimbra 6 Gun and Roses), I decided that it would be important to show the audience, how easy setting up openSUSE for Zimbra Mail Server."

Masim Sugianto: Решена проблема K3b с обычным пользователем на openSUSE 11.1

  • "Well, this is another problem on K3b after the previous one. The previous problem occurred on PC workstation and now I got another problem on my laptop. K3b could not executed properly with normal user, while it was no problem with root permission. It seems not only me got this problem. See the bugzilla here and there."

Новые/обновлённые приложения @ openSUSE

  • "Вышел stad 0.0.3! I’ve just released stad 0.0.3. Binaries are available via the openSUSE Buildservice, just search for package “stad” or check out this URL.
  • "Exempi 2.1 выпущен. It fixes several bugs, add a few APIs and resync the internals to Adobe XMP SDK 4.4.1. My openSUSE packages have an additional patch that is not in the release (but in git master)."
  • "Compiz на Opensuse 11.1 Although openSUSE 11.1 is almost ready, Compiz that is in it is still not there yet. If you run into some of the remaining annoyances, here is how to get Compiz Fusion bliss on openSUSE 11.1. Add X11:XGL repository that contains compiz without NOMAD patches. If you like to ride on the bleeding edge head on here"

Ben Kevan: Dropping KDE 3.5 for openSUSE 11.2 isn’t really a bad thing

  • "In some previous writings of mine, I kept harping on the dismissal of KDE 3.5 in the next release of openSUSE, openSUSE 11.2 (which will probably be due out in Q3 / Q4 of 2009). However, one thing I’ve always neglected to do was look at the bright side of the drop of main stream support for KDE 3.5."

Marek Stopka: Few ideas for buildpower saving in OBS…

  • "Hi, as you probably know OBS is again under big overload, waiting queue is pretty long (i586: 2746 waiting, x86_64: 2729 waiting) so I come with a few ideas how to help to figure out this situation and I would like to hear your comments and opinions about these optimizations, so here we go: ..."

  • "SuSE was founded in Nuremberg, Germany in 1992 when the Linux kernel was still almost new. by Hubert Mantel, Burchard Steinbild, Roland Dyroff and Thomas Fehr, with the objective of distributing Slackware (based on the earlier SLS Linux from Soft Landing Systems), in sets of 40 floppies, translated into German, with the approval of Patrik Volkerding, the guiding light and sole developer of Slackware."

DistroWatch: First look at openSUSE 11.1

  • "This week sees a point release update for openSUSE, pushing the version of the popular Linux distribution to 11.1. What does this new version have to offer? Well, plenty! Naturally, it comes with updates to the main desktop environments, namely GNOME 2.24.1 and KDE 4.1.3, but it also includes the release of the Linux kernel and, very importantly, a free license replaces the old EULA."

HowtoForge: The Perfect Desktop - OpenSUSE 11.1 (GNOME)

  • "This tutorial shows how you can set up an OpenSUSE 11.1 desktop that is a full-fledged replacement for a Windows desktop, i.e. that has all the software that people need to do the things they do on their Windows desktops. The advantages are clear: you get a secure system without DRM restrictions that works even on old hardware, and the best thing is: all software comes free of charge."
